Shop Local in Amesbury

An Amesbury business couple are asking traders and shoppers to support a campaign to keep spending in the local community.

Alison & Michael Ogden, who have their own Kleeneze business in Amesbury, has launched the campaign as many small businesses face another tough year.

At the same time, the major supermarkets are showing significantly increased profits after a bumper Christmas - Tesco and Sainsbury's reported a 'record' Christmas with Tesco showing a 4.9% increase in like for like sales over the festive period.

Michael Ogden said:

"Many small, independent businesses struggled last year while the big national brands and supermarkets continue to undercut them on price and dominate the market.

In the current economic climate it's more important than ever to support small businesses and make sure the money earned in the local community is spent there.

By making the decision to shop locally this year we can help support the businesses and traders that are part of the fabric of our local community."

Alison & Michael Ogden are a self-employed distributor for Kleeneze who delivers and collects Kleeneze catalogues containing over 2,000 household products and processes orders from customers.

Through Kleeneze, customers have the convenience of a personal shopping service from the comfort of their own home where Kleeneze catalogues and products are delivered straight to their door.
They are encouraging fellow traders to sign up to the campaign highlighting that it helps to:

    * Keep money in the local economy – every £1 spent with a local supplier keeps £1.76 in the local economy (source: New Economics Foundation).
    * Give shoppers a personal service and extra care – local business owners know their customers and are able to offer a more personal service.
    * Maintain local character – supporting local businesses ensures their survival and maintains the local provision of services and character of local communities.
    * Be better for the environment – shopping locally promotes fewer and shorter car journeys and local stores use less CO2 than superstores (sources: DEFRA, Sheffield Hallam University)
